We Didn't Start the Fire

This piece is probably the piece that I am most proud of. I was bored over the summer of 2006 and I had previously finished two Naruto videos. (Gaara Help! and Naruto Kung Fu Fighting) I decided to work on a piece that more people could appreciate, but especially my parents and family. Ever since middle school when I saw a "We Didn't Start the Fire" poster on my math teacher's wall, I have always ben interested with the song. At last, I had an oportunity to put together a project for one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite performers.

The next decision was how to put this video together. The lyrics about all the people and happenings of each year were easy enough to figure out, but what should I use to fill the rest of it. I came up with a few simple, yet effective ideas. First, the quotes by many of the famous people sung about in the song was my first idea, but I didn't want just that. The countdown through all the years came to me, and I knew I had to open the video with that. I really like the changing of the years effect it has. Also, I had to fil in time for the chorus. I felt obliged to fill in parts that Billy Joel had mentioned, but needed more. I decided on the Korean War, Vietnam War, and the Civil Rights movement because they were well known events of that time. I added quotes later in because I couldn't think of anything to fill that time with. Lastly, the pictures leading up to today's events was something that I knew I would finish the vieo with even before I started working on it, and if you view the comments I've received on youtube.com, you can tell it worked quite nicely.

The video was finally finished and it was posted on YouTube.com. While it has yet to win any awards or be on the front page, it seems to be doing quite well for itself, generating a rating of 4 out of 5 stars, 48 coments, 243 times it's been favorited by people, and a total of 17,013 views. (December 12th, 2006 12:46 A.M.) But perhaps most importantly, I knew it was good because it made my mother cry the first time she saw it. I hope you enjoy.

A new update for my video. I'd like to let people know that my video has been cited and is being used all around the country. It has/is being used for a church production, an American History high school class, other classrooms, for a U.S. History class for a University out west, and finally a non-profit organization.
